email that shim sent out (just thought it was so awesome!)

i think this email shim had sent out it awesome so i'm reposting it here for those who for some reason didn't see it =]


I had an interesting conversation with a friend of mine recently. (Yes I have a friend)

But first, I will ask you...

Think of YOUR biggest problem.

It should come to you pretty fast. The problem on your mind the most. The most unresolved thing that you think about before you can actually GET yourself into dreamland from your pillow each night.

Got it?

Good.

Now, back to my conversation.

My friend went to the observatory in LA. There he saw a tutorial on the Universe.

There he learned,

(Now REALLY read this)

Our planet revolves around our Sun with all the other Planets in our Galaxy.

Around our Planet there is a Moon that revolves around us. And the other Planets have a Moon if not more than one.

That one Solar System is one of BILLIONS and BILLIONS of Solar Systems that make up a Galaxy call the "The Milky Way".

Each of those billions of Solar Systems have BILLIONS of Suns with BILLIONS and BILLIONS of Planets revolving around them.

Each with BILLIONS and BILLIONS and BILLIONS of Moons revolving around them.

THAT Galaxy is one of BILLIONS and BILLIONS and BILLIONS of Galaxies all tied together to make up what is called "A Super Galaxy"

So a "Super Galaxy Contains"..... BILLIONS of Galaxies... with BILLIONS and BILLIONS of Solar systems.... With BILLIONS and BILLIONS and BILLIONS of Suns...... With BILLIONS and BILLIONS and BILLIONS and BILLIONS of Planets revolving around them..... with BILLIONS and BILLIONS and BILLIONS and BILLIONS and BILLIONS of Moons (more than one each sometimes) revolving around them.

Now In between all of these "Super Galaxies" there is something called "Dark matter" We don't know what it is but we know it exist because we can see the suns light refracting off of it.

So the Dark matter separates all the "Super Galaxies"

There are BILLIONS and BILLIONS and BILLIONS of Super Galaxies!
ALL those Super Galaxies with all those little Galaxies and tiny Solar systems and marbles of Suns and tear drops of Planets and rice grains of Moons inside them.

Now All of those "Super Galaxies" make up our Universe which we know is still ever expanding. We have no idea how big it is or how long it will grow.

Remember that problem you had?

I did the same thing. I was laughing, thinking wtf, and then reading the world BILLIONS again.

Interesting to think about though.....

EDIT: It's not that I was laughing at what he was trying to say. He was trying to make the point that the world, more like the BILLIONS and BILLIONS of Super Galaxies, was bigger than whatever problems we might have. The BILLIONS of BILLIONS just made me chuckle. At the end of it, I did feel better about the "one problem" he had us imagine at the beginning of the email.

I was starting to get confused with all the BILLIONS going on, but then I got to the end and I was like 'wow, he's right'

And the 'it's going to be okay' part made me think of Odd One and I smiled and felt better about myself.

Leave it to Shim to make a bad day BILLIONS of times better with an email. ha.

It made me depressed if anything.

....makes me think of the fact that all human knowledge of the universe/outer space is only 1%. That fact always gets me; there's so much to still discover, so many questions left to be answered, and so many new questions from those answers. If only we put all the negative focus (war, banning gay marriage, etc) into something positive like expanding our knowledge of the universe. I'm a dreamer...

I admit that I did laugh a little bit because of all of the billions but I think that made everybody laugh lol =] Shim has got such a great head on his shoulders I totally agree with everything that he said in that email he does have a way to make you feel so much better I feel better about the problem that always bugs me! So epic. And to add to the inevitability of the universe, some scientists think that dark matter is getting stronger, which is leading to exponential expansion. They say that eventually it will become stronger than gravity, and everything that is held together by gravity will become unraveled and the universe will be sucked back into a tiny ball of energy.

I read that email to my mom and had her listen to some of the newer interview clips from listening.org and she was blown away.

She said 'he and I need to have a sit down heart to heart chat' lol

lol oh wow nice! I would do that with my mom but she never listens like I'll tell her something important and when I'm done she's like "huh what did you say?" and it annoys the hell out of me but I still repeat myself and then most likely she wouldn't understand it so I just didn't bother reading that to her haha
