How Neon Trees & Sick Puppies Celebrate Thanksgiving
With the arrival of Thanksgiving, two up-and-coming rock bands have plenty to be thankful for. Neon Trees are achieving a dream by playing Conan O'Brien's show on Wednesday night. Drummer Elaine Bradley says, "Since he came on TV, I have said to my sister Anna, 'Anna, if I could just play on Conan, my musical dreams will be fulfilled." Food is also high on their thanks list, although lead singer Tyler Glenn, who's a vegan, will be cooking up a Tofurkey for his family. He explains, "It takes a little while but you finally learn how to marinate it right, and it's actually very tasty."
Two-thirds of the members of Sick Puppies are Australian, so they didn't grow up with Thanksgiving, but they've learned to enjoy the holiday. Singer Shim Moore says he really loves the "concept of giving thanks and the spirituality," but bass player Emma Anzai admits she just loves the food. They first enjoyed both aspects of the holiday when they opened for Evanescence a few years ago, and ended up celebrating with Amy Lee, her husband and the rest of the band at a catered five-star Thanksgiving dinner at a hotel. Shim says, "They say the best meals are made with love. I think they're better when they're made with money. 'Cause that was the best meal I ever had!"
