Sick Puppies grateful for involved fans

Sick Puppies formed when Shimon Moore and Emma Anzai met in their Australian high school. Over a love of late '90s rock, they created the band.
With drummer Mark Goodwin, the band has released three popular rock albums, and songs such as “Maybe” and “All the Same” have won the group a loyal fanbase.
Next up for the group is a new album, Sick Puppies' first in three years.
We talked to bassist Anzai while she was in Los Angeles, preparing to head out on some festival dates, including Friday's Rockfest in Council Bluffs.
Q. You're putting out a new album soon. Are you excited? And will you be playing any of the new songs?
A. Yes. We have a single coming out on the 20th of May. We'll be playing that and maybe one or two other new songs.
Q. What is the single called?
A. It's called “There's No Going Back.” The video is coming out in early June.
Q. Is there a theme that emerged while recording the album?
A. I would say at the very end, it became apparent that it's more of a musical, melodic sort of album. I don't want to say uplifting, that's probably the wrong word.
Q. Inspiring?
A. Yeah, that works.
Q. Sick Puppies has a very big, involved fan base. What is that like?
A. We're very lucky. They've been very patient with us. It is (rewarding). Very much so. We've asked them more of what they want to hear and what they want to hear less of. We wanted to hear their honest opinion, and we took that into account when we were writing.
