Introducing myself: Melanie

Hi there. For those of you reading, my name is Melanie. Thank you for reading also. I'm new to this forum, but am a member of several forums online so I'm aware of how they work. I am a 25 year old female and reside in Plattsburgh,NY. Drive about 20-30 minutes north of Plattsburgh and you will find yourself in Canada. Not much to do in this area. Most people call us hicks as there is alot of undereducated individuals and lots of land, cows, & farming. I was not raised on farm. I graduated high school in 2001, continued on to college, and now co-own a beautiful quaint flower shop with my mother where we are devoted to our customers 100%. We are open and delivering 7 days a week. Most shops have very limited hours and are closed on Sunday. Just like the Sick Puppies, we realize that we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for our customers (fans). I greatly admire Shim and the Sick Puppies gang for all their hard work and dedication to something that they truly love and believe in. Music is a great way to express yourself and it IS a therapy for many emotions, just as flowers and floral art of all kinds are. I feel truly blessed that I am able to express myself and help others express emotions through art whether it be for happy occasions such as love and weddings or great sadness and sympathy for funerals. My art just happens to be flowers, where Sick Puppies expression is through music. I had the pleasure of seeing the Sick Puppies at Higher Ground, VT in 2008 I believe it was. They announced that they wanted to meet us right after the show and my sister and I were stoked. I wasn't too familiar with the band having just bought the cd only months before the concert. I can't remember how I was introducted to Sick Puppies and their music, but am damn glad I was. I want to say it probably had something to do with the free hugs video. I had never experienced meeting a band before. I had been to a couple of concerts, seen Simple Plan, Hinder, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, & Rev Theory (formerly Revelation Theory) but never met any of them. So here we are waiting in line after the show to buy merchandise and get them to sign stuff...we were freaking out. I didn't know what to say besides being polite and doing the usual thank you, you're awesome type talk. Paul asked me what I would like, so I purchased a poster and free hugs t-shirt and had them sign both. I overheard someone say something about pictures and was like you're taking pictures too??!!! They said yeah just wait over there so we did and they proceeded to help the next fan. We got in another line and when it was our turn, gave Paul their manager our camera and took a picture with them...I didn't want to leave!!!! My sister and I hate how we looked in the picture...we weren't ready, he just took the pic!!! He captured a moment for I will be greatly fond of for the rest of my life. I made a custom black tank top with iron on decals with hearts and SP on it. I found a cool pin that says I'm with the band that I wore and custom made a skirt out of a cheap pair of jeans to look like the one Emma wears. When my sister and I went up to take the picture Shim asked if I made the shirt for them and I smirked and said of course and Mark came back and said no its probably made for Smashing Pumpkins...we all had a good laugh at that one. It was the best concert and I blared the cd the whole way home. I will never forget that experience. They are the nicest, most humble, down to earth people "rockstars" I've ever met. FUNNY TOO!!! So when I get cranky from working long ass days when customers tend to start aggitating me, I relive that moment in my head or sing a little of one of their songs and it immediately calms me down and brings a smile to my face and I say its all ok.
Thank you for that..so now I am a fan for life. Constantly checking the myspace, twitter, and youtube pages for news and videos. Isn't technology great???!! Thanks for reading! I look forward to talking to you if you'll have me here.
