This is another poem/song that I wrote. The inspiration for this poem came from the two of my favorite songs, "Animal I Have Become" by Three Days Grace and "Monster" by Skillet. I find that most of my poems are inspired by music. This is one of the few poems that I actually made an effort to follow a set rhyming pattern. I think it turned out pretty good.
I lie here in bed,
Yet stay wide awake.
Pounding in my head,
Chills run down my spine,
Sheets soaked with sweat,
The seconds pass by.
My body grows cold.
Now it will begin.
The fight for my soul,
And I cannot win.
This is not right,
This darkness inside me.
Try as I might,
It will not go away.
This thing I can't fight,
This shadow within me.
It will consume,
It will devour.
This I cannot win,
This fight against
The shadow within.
Why do you fight?
Why do you shake?
Can you not see?
I will make you break.
Your body will die.
Your heartbeat will end.
Your soul will be mine,
You can't win this, my friend.
Soon you will bow.
Just end this fight now.
This is not right,
This darkness inside me.
Try as I might,
It will not go away.
This thing I can't fight,
This shadow within me.
It will consume,
It will devour.
This I cannot win,
This fight against
The shadow within.
I will not bow,
I will not die,
I will not give in,
This is my life.
My body, my soul,
Will never be yours.
Leave me alone,
You cannot win.
This is not right,
This darkness inside me.
Try as I might,
It will not go away.
This thing I can't fight,
This shadow within me.
It will consume,
It will devour.
This I cannot win,
This fight against
The shadow within.
Get out of my head

The Shadow Within
Now I'm stuck here,
Trapped all alone.
But it's not my time,
I don't want to go.
You can't take me,
Break free these chains.
You can't have me,
I want to live again.
