Trapped
Unemployed, having no money, nothing to do,
got a new job, got money, feel trapped, like in a cage at the zoo,
what I wouldn't give for a chance to sleep in,
to break free from the structure I find myself in,
Working 9 to 5 makes me feel less like like myself,
I have become just an employee working year round like a Christmas elf,
I was poor for so long and struggled to thrive,
Now with some money I just feel contrived,
I pass by a beggar sitting alone in the street,
I feel shame and guilt and look down at my feet,
I don't feel free, I am trapped in a cage,
I feel too beat down to feel any rage,
The things some people would do to be where I am,
But still I don't make enough to cause an itch in my palm,
The grass looked greener from the other side,
The bridge to success is not very wide,
Only a lucky few get to cross it and see what they find,
they will discover that either side is not very kind,
When asked to describe myself I will just sit on my shelf,
display my bar-code and job title and say nothing else.

I feel shame and guilt and look down at my feet,
I don't feel free, I am trapped in a cage,
