joe the plumber would probably pay less taxes with obama. and even though i'd pay more taxes with obama, i think that for now, higher taxes on those making more does make sense. i just don't understand how we can possibly pay for the bailout, the war, and countless other things while cutting taxes. sure, we could just print more money but the value of the dollar could continue to drop like a rock against foreign currencies.

in the current climate, having a slight bit extra cash isn't going to entice the small business or even large business to hire more people. right now, people want to be more in cash. the only way things open up is if the banks start lending again.

besides, there's no way joe the plumber would get a loan to open his business in the first place. not with a low unlicensed salary and $1200 in back taxes.

i'm not crazy about a lot of social programs either but i don't hear either candidate differentiating. We already know $700billion of what we'll be spending. We also know that even if Obama say to pull the troops out of Iraq immediately, we'll still spend billions of dollars until then. With McCain, we'll never get out so that's anywhere from $73billion to $255billion per year (that's the low and high that I've seen we spend). All this means that we still can't cut taxes. Not sure how either candidate thinks they can cut taxes for either the poor, wealthy or middle class.

I have no problem paying for social programs. In fact, I like to think that my tax dollars my go to help people in need. I've been in hard financial situations, I know how hard it is to get up when it seems everything is pushing you down. I'm lucky to have had Planned Parenthood and their sliding payment scale when I had cervical cancer. I've volunteered in government daycares with inner city infants and children who's parent's sent them there while they worked and went to school. I could never imagine looking into those children's eyes and thinking that I wouldn't want them to have somewhere to go or someone to take care of them. :noclue: Regardless of whether or not their parents were crack heads or just someone who was struggling to make ends meet, children have no choice. :noclue: If I could choose where my taxes went, it would probably be towards social programs, health care and education.

As far as Fair Tax...I'm sure the 100,000 people employed by the IRS, all the accountants (like myself), brokers, CPA's, ect...wouldn't like it much whenever they found themselves without jobs. But I've already said how I felt about the "Fair" Tax act, so I won't get into it.
