Re: What books are you reading right now?
Just finished The Handmaid's Tale, which is all too fitting for today's world, really. It's one of those I read every year or every couple of years and it never gets old.
I've started The Charleston Syllabus which is a really interesting collection of papers and articles throughout history that was compiled by professors and academics after Dylan Roof's rampage in the church in Charleston. It's a hard read, but important. I don't have a book to keep my spirits light though, so I need to find one.

I'm currently reading Flashforward by Robert J. Sawyer. I liked that tv show so I figured I would like the book too. I do, but it's pretty different from the show.

Re: What books are you reading right now?
Welcome to Nightvale (the novel) by Joseph Fink and Jeffery Cranor.
It's based on the podcast and focuses on a couple of the minor characters that pop up. It's utter brilliance and at times I catch my breath with how on point and perfect the writing has been so far. There's this one passage that is just ... so the context is a description of Diane, who is bi-racial and the description is specific to the breakdown of how she is described as someone who is. There are passages before and after this one that speak directly to that context and they are super important. But this passage though ... if this isn't about women and how we are perceived ... not just by others but by ourselves ...
"Diane didn’t know what she looked like. She never cared to know. Many people would tell her anyway. When her body won the race to womanhood against her person, Diane began to hear that she was tall, short, fat, skinny, ugly, sexy smiled too much, smiled too little, had bad hair, had beautiful hair, had something in her teeth, dressed nice, dressed cheap, had duck feet, had elegant feet, she was too dark, she was too pale. She heard a lot of different descriptions of her, and she took them all as truth."
You don't need to know the podcast to read the novel, but having them both together just makes the universe explode.

Re: What books are you reading right now?
I need to find time again to read. I haven't really done much of that lately sadly. I started "The Girl in the Spiders Web" aaaages ago but have barely touched it. Mostly I just keep re-reading chapters of the book my friend is writing...

Voyager - Diana Gabaldon
Its the third of the Outlander series, 1000+ pages, and the hardest book to put down.
Cannot suggest this series enough.

Re: What books are you reading right now?
I just finished the Welcome to Nightvale novel and have picked up a novelization of probably the best DS9 episode ever done - Far Beyond the Stars. I forget how well done this novelization is until I re-read it.
