For anyone in the southeast PA, NJ or DE areas...
WMMR’s Preston and Steve – “Camp Out for Hunger” will be at the Metroplex in Plymouth Meeting, PA from 11/30 to 12/4.
The radio show will be collecting nonperishable foods all week (they camp out in a trailer all week, do the show from there and collect crazy amounts of food). Everything goes to Philabundance and is disturbed to food banks throughout the area.
I’m collecting throughout this month at both of my jobs and via anyone who would like to donate. Since I'm on this forum I thought I would put a call out to anyone who would be interested in donating or helping to collect food. If there's a group of people who might be interested, we could always collect and say part or all it's from the world crew (see my stretch to get people to donate). I don't really care as long as the food is collected and donated to this great cause. Food banks are continuing to get hit hard with the recession.
This is a really cool and wonderful event to help people in the southeast PA area. If you're reading this and not in the area, you should totally start a group to help a local food bank!
Anywho, if anyone is interested in donating please let me know (either through a PM or posting).

(ACME is starting the donations now..es the link...and more info on the event itself to come)

My theory is as such....70 year-olds of today swing dance at weddings, so at 70 we'll be moshing and head banging in walkers to Rage.

Re: Camp Out for Hunger - Food Drive event
I regret not reading this earlier, JMarie but I joined a little too late. I think it's wonderful to devote time to helping those who need the extra boost (which has been myself all too many times in the past) Our Union actively runs a food drive and a food bank at my place of employment and we help distribute food to locals who are poor and elderly. To me, there is no greater feeling than helping somebody who needs the hand. Let me know if you plan to organize or be a part of something like this again. Thanks for the link and info!

Re: Camp Out for Hunger - Food Drive event
Thanks Jay!
Thanks Jay! I agree wholeheartedly, and try to do this type of work when I can. That's great that your able to help collect food at home through your employer!!!! Thankfully it should be an alright donation altogether, and I'm actually dropping the food off tomorrow at the event! Last year the event itself raised around 220 tons of food in a week. So many people are annoyed when they can't have a latte when there are so many (and unfortunately an increasing #) of those who can't even buy one can of soup.
If anyone's interested in the story:
Even if its just a box of rice, if you can, donate to your local food shelter! Everything counts!

Re: Camp Out for Hunger - Food Drive event
I thought I would post an update for anyone who might have read through this posting.
The 93.3 event collected over 187 tons of (aka 17 tracker trailers or 374, 235 lbs) of non-perishable food. I was able to collect over 182lbs with my apt building and co-workers.
If you’re in the Philly area keep an eye on 93.3’s community events page. The station and the radio show (Preston and Steve) do a lot with local charities, which is yet another big reason I love the station/show so much. Now, if we can get SP on the show that would make it perfect.
Always remember to keep your local food bank in mind, even after the holiday season!
