Music Video Concepts

This is the first album where I immediately get images in my head of what the videos should be like...they just keep coming to me..I'm gonna have to write 'em down so I don't forget. Just thought I'd start this..sorry if someone has already posted about this. I have some where I'm torn between 2 concepts. Post and lets compare

Lets start with Riptipe.....

Maybe a girl/boy getting in an arguement with their parents because they won't go get the job they want them to have. Working in the family business, etc...business suit, 9-5ers..think you got my point. The part where Shim says "I like where I'm at on my back floating down in my own riptide the water is fine" Should be something of a large pool party or a big get together at the beach...All I can picture is Shim floating on the water sitting on one of those innertubes like welcoming people into the pool like c'mon in "the water is fine!" So maybe the parents putting down the kids liking of music in the beginning and then at the end everyone Including the parents join in and have a great time either poolside or beachside. My other thought was to get some footage of Shim surfing because he said he likes to do that so that would be cool and personal. Maybe a contest for fellow surfers where they can win a chance to be in the video....i dunno just thinking outloud

What do you think or see when you hear this amazing song?

The water is fine part remindes me of the Move Along video clip from the All American Rejects... I can easily imagine Shim leting him fall into a swimming pool and then just stay here floating on his back, tired of this guys he can't bear.

I think the video for this song should have something to do with someone dealing with alcohol addiction and what it can do to their lives and the lives of their family members that love them. "Every time I end up breaking you
you change into something worth keeping"-Person thinking about quitting drinking but then finds another reason to keep drinking (peer pressure, coolness factor, gettin' girls/guys, nerves, etc) "I hate you when you're gone"-Ran out of booze. "I hate you turn me on"- Addicted to the booze and that euphoric happy feeling you get. "I hate the way I need you when I don't know where you are" - Too drunk to see straight and can't find any more booze in the house. "Love it even more when I find you on the floor"-when you start to sober up and see empty bottles all over the floor. "I know you think you hate me but I will always hate you more" More of the sobering up process maybe bathroom puking scene of looking at the bottle and looking back at the toilet. Then the part where he apologizes for what he did to you...could be the alcoholic getting busted for something...DWI, theft/burglary (maybe could tie into the line "I'll take whatever I can take, whenever I can take it) The end has to show how the kids have been affected...either them vowing to never end up like them or starting to drink like the parent did and starting the cycle all over again.

Argh I had this whole thing typed up and right in the middle of it BOOM out goes the power I'm so sick of this crappy weather! Ok here's to my 2nd try at White Balloons.

White Balloons

I'm holding onto white balloons
up against a sky of doom

Since Shim & Emma are singing different parts here I think Shim & Emma or 2 young people (boy & girl) who later on in the video grow up to be Shim & Emma and are staring out a window singing their lines separately and noticing the changing weather. Maybe put Emma in an all white clean room so it'll make the sky stand out more. The dark, creepy, black clouded sky.

stormy and clear strength into fear bound together
Both boy and girl are looking outside and noticing the crappy weather...the sky getting dark, and the dark clouds

But I'll break my silence
if I believed that you and me could ever be
more than just what's been behind us
I tried and left, they came and went
I got rejected out again
but no one believes me
I've worn a hundred faces
of the character replacements and now
nobody sees me
The next day or just later on this day they meet at school in the music room.(just like Emma & Shim did!) Both are quiet and shy but just diggin their own thing. They look over and see each other playin and then get curious. The guy (Shim or someone like) "breaks his silence" when he asks the girl about the tunes she is playin' They start jamming and become friends and then it is the start of something big...its the beginning of SP!

cloudy at best...
Both guy and girl look out the music room window and see the weather change. Very cloudy this time.

ok and now to the best part and final scene. Its a performance scene...Emma and Shim are grown up and are doing their thing on stage. Fans are out in the crowd going crazy for Sick Puppies. All off the fans are holding onto white balloons (haven't decided strings or not) Maybe not the fans holding onto balloons...Maybe its just a large balloon release. They are released just as he sings "carry me away" once they get up in the air you see Mark, Shim, and Emma's faces separately in the balloons floating around in the air. All of the fans are looking up in the air and just loving the concert Sick Puppies are performing. That very last line there about "don't break" should be a close up of Shim's face in the balloon saying don't break and "what's inside of me is invisible to most..even in clear view" Maybe then have the sky clear up to represent the "clear view" I dunno I just really love this song....A balloon release would be the best

It's not a video concept, but The Pretender could have been an excellent video, because the whole thing would be based on the look-like, and a video is perfect to show it.

Interesting ideas. I like the one for "I Hate You". Was thinking of this for "Odd One"

Video starts out with a boy walking down the road. You can hear his footsteps until the music kicks in. He passes by some puddles in the street and Shim is reflected instead of the boy. As he keeps walking he passes through a town ignoring other people most of whom stop and look as he ignores them and his surroundings.

odd one...

As he keeps moving he passes the band members, who are playing in the street even though no one seems to be paying attention. The boy stops and listens for a while, keeping rhythm (with either his foot or tapping his hands on his pants etc.) for a while before he keeps walking. It's obvious that he is the only one who hears the band and notices them playing.

Just shots of band playing in the streets, having a good time.

Odd one, I wish I was you

we are all desperately seeking out, and fitting with anyone

The boy keeps walking, passing by some other people. He's still keeping rhythm with his hands, maybe bobbing his head to the music a bit. The people he passes look, point and laugh but he doesn't notice. Each set of people he passes by are all dressed the same - a group of cheerleaders, a couple of football players etc. . The boy gets to his destination, which is a house. He heads in, up some stairs, into his room and starts drumming(by the beginning of the second chorus).

Switch between shots of the band playing and shots of the boy drumming. Age the boy in each segment of him drumming until he's no longer playing in his room but in front of a crowd. He puts down the sticks and smiles at the camera during the last part of the song.

Obviously it would be easy to age him into Mark drumming at a SP show but I don't know if Mark would want that or identifies with the song. It would be easy to do though.

I like the concept of the odd one video, just a thought but for some reason in my mind this song reminds me of shim more than mark maybe the kid at the end could be rocking a guitar or have the drums idea but have the kid get up from behind the drums and grab a guitar as he leaves through a door signifying shim coming out from behind the drums when he and emma used to jam out together to be the front man for the band, then as he walks out it transitions into shim coming out from behind a curtain to finish off the song. But man I want to see all these videos actually come to life.

During the first line "if you want to know..." I think it should be Shim or someone being a preacher or preacher like figure. Maybe dressed up or pretending to be a vampire, because the mentioning of coffin's. Maybe like a Vampire cult or something dark and evil like.

Vampire footage maybe showing drinking blood and living the vampire like life.

I see a big long table with 3 glasses (elegant looking) containing blood or red substance to resemble blood. Just follow the lyrics here (one 1/2 full, one completely full, and another empty)

vampire coffin scene maybe in a dark room where you can see a window with the moonlight just peeking through. Vampire turns into a bat and flies out the window and down a street to be joined by other vampire bats who enter childrens rooms turn into vampires and scare them into the streets...the vampires then turn back into bats and chase them down the streets (trying to make like a reference to the movie The Birds) Then finally catching up to the one person they have been chasing after they succeed in sucking the blood and turning them into a vampire. (all this vampire talk kind of has a reference to the Rock star life of being up all night and fans creating new fans "sucking their blood"

All the vampires back home and show a scene of them laying down in their coffins as the doors close and they bring home their new kill and new vampire to lay with them. Show like all the coffins closing at the same time

Another "preacher" like scene standing at a podium or above the others in his group telling everyone about his experiences. The doors of this building that they are in could fly open and they could all walk out together at the end. (maybe in like a slow mo fashion or reminiscent of the Twilight series)


This just kinda came to me on my way home from work today...what do you think?

I personally haven't had any...yet. I've kinda got an idea for a White Balloons video but I'm still putting some things together in my head.
