Congrats on winning the guitar man!!!! So glad a fan WCer won it. As far as perserving the signatures go, if you don't.....you will lose them. Especially with the one of Mark's on top. That area will see the most action from your palms and pick. Sharpies are never permanent on a glossy finish like your guitar.
Here is the guitar I got signed.

These were taken before I put the clear nail polish on them. You have to be REALLY careful though. Tips from me would be to let it sit out for a couple of weeks to make sure all the solvents in the marker have evaporated. If you do use clear nail polish, you HAVE to follow the direction of the marker, if you go across the line, it will smudge or erase it. I only waited about a week before I did mine, and I did smudge it a little. Mine was signed on Aug 11th.
Here are some pics I just took of it. The signatures still look fine, but to honest with you I havent played it since they signed it. Looking from a few feet away you cannot see the polish. If you get close, yes you can see the coat of nail polish. I would rather have it that way though than risk wearing them off.

I saw other people on the internet talking about getting some clear finish aresols and covering the whole body of the guitar with success.
Congrats again man. It's really cool your learning to play, it's so much fun. As far as the fingers go.....haha, when I changed out my first set of strings they were stained with blood. The calluses come, but it takes some pain and time....just keep at it.
