Re: Connect
I have to say I was a bit skeptical but PLEASE go see them live. They played at the Paramount last night and were awesome. Set was too short for my taste but they played 5 songs from the new CD: Die To Save You, There's No Going Back, Gunfight, Connect and Walking Away.
I'm still not feeling Gunfight but the other songs were great live. I think both Emma and Mark are pretty muted on the CD. Add some kickin' bass and drums, throw in Shim's personality and screaming...we're good to go.

Re: Connect
Hey, I caught them at the Paramount last night as well. They rocked my face. I'd never seen them live, and everything people say about how nice they are and how great they play was totally true. Shim really brings the crowd in on it, and they were great at the merch desk even though we only had like 15 seconds. Plus everything they did was flawless.
The thing about Sick Puppies is that even the songs you don't love right away have a way of growing on you. I've never disliked any of there songs, but some of them just didn't grab me. Like, I wasn't crazy about Don't Walk Away at first, and now it's one of my favorites. But more than that, at the show last night, even songs which I don't always get into, like Maybe or TNGB, really got me pumped up like crazy. It's because The Pups are an incredible band, and you have to see them live to really get it. Everything they did sounded awesome, and the energy and the power are through the roof in a way you can't understand on just the album. But the album is also incredible, and everything I said about a song growing on you is true for them as well. I don't think it's possible for them to release a song which you can't, at the very least, come to love.
This Album also meant a lot to me because my two other favorite bands both released pretty disappointing albums this year, and I was worried Connect would be the same. I Should've Known Better. 5 seconds into Die to Save You I was laughing like a maniac because I already knew that Sick Puppies never disappoints. Needless to say, they have been and are now even more firmly in place at number 1 on my list.
Woo! First post rant -- done!

Re: Connect
I can't really choose one song being my favorite. I am constantly humming Connect or Gunfight while I am working. It has gotten to the point where my family is tired of me playing the CD... Headphones it is!
There isn't really a least favorite one. I love Emma singing, but when I listen to Shim and Mark in Black Sky, my mind reverts to the old Willie Wonka movie when the Oompa Loompas sing...

Re: Connect
This album finally did it.
My mom had been getting on my case for listening to Sick Puppies merely because she thought the name was a little morbid. The other day she came home and I had Where Did The Time Go on and she just listened to it because she truly understood what the lyrics were saying. Shes started to take a liking to them now and actually listen to them more and more. I count this as a small success.
One of my friends, who is a huge fan of pop and not much else, was in the car with my brother and I while we were going somewhere. My brother left right as There's No Going Back came on the radio. She started listening to it and enjoyed it a lot. She doesn't like current rock at all so it was a big step for her to enjoy this; later I showed her Run, Under A Very Black Sky, and Trick and she seemed to enjoy them all. I think she is becoming a big fan of the Pups.

Re: Connect
The tour with 10 years they haven't been doing healing now, but they also haven't done an acoustic set at the shows either. Hopefully the tour with Redlight King will have an acoustic set where they can play Healing Now.

Re: Connect
They've only played Telling Lies in acoustic sets, too. My mom's been wishing to hear Poison live, but I think that's even less likely than Healing Now. I think she'd be happy with either one - those are probably her two favorite songs
Sadly her song-spamming and overenthusiasm ruined another chance to get my sister to like the 'pups. Ugh I was so close! She admitted to liking Riptide, and she was willing to try more! I really thought that if I was gonna get her into them, it'd be with this album. I feel like Spongebob in that episode where Squidward says he's never had a krabby patty
I honestly think that she would like them if she would just put aside her bias for a little while and let me pick some songs I think she'd like. It's not even like I force it on her, in fact it makes *me* a little nuts when our mom sings the songs at her or nags me to play the songs around her because I know it makes her hate the pups slightly more every time she pulls that stuff.

Re: Connect
It would definitely be awesome if they ever play Healing Now at the shows. The more I listen to the song, the better it gets. Everything in that song is just perfection
