Next single, "Telling Lies"

Unread postby northtracks » 24 Jul 2013 11:09

I logged on to Universal Music Group's b2b today and found this.

Telling Lies (Album Version) 4:25
Telling Lies (Rock Version) 5:01

Sorry if this wasn't supposed to be leaked. But how do you feel about Telling Lies being the next single? It seemed like the least likely track to be chosen. But there is a rock version that's considerably longer. Could there be a guitar solo? I wish they let you listen. :(

That is interesting...

I thought Shim said they had been considering "Connect" as a single. I would be much happier with that choice!

^I think I remember him saying since Connect is kind of a big departure from their past stuff, they may have to ease in to it before becoming a single. Maybe a rock version of Telling Lies is a step towards that? Of course I am still wishing Healing Now would have been the choice.

Run seems like such a perfect single though. It's the one song I can see being super popular on the radio!

Gunfight is so badass though and hope it takes off as well. It has grown on me so much.

I am at least interested to hear about a rock version of Telling Lies. After hearing it for so long now it would be great to see some new life and hopefully more "exciting bits" thrown into it.

I agree. I love Gunfight. I find it incredibly ironic that every time I pull into work (I work at the Courthouse) that it is on.

Telling Lies is a no brainer to Me. It's darker than There's No Going Back, it has Emma Singing, but isn't too dark like Under A Very Black Sky. Plus it's message is loud an clear, everyone lies. People who are married, or just going out, or people with kids all will identify with this song. That's a pretty big demographic.

True, it's a song we have been listening to for almost a year, but it hasn't been on the Radio (at least in St. Louis), plus the new version is way better than the original. I've read some gripes about how the new one ends, but it's the same ending, just more effects and ambiance to drive it home.

I think Telling Lies is a great segue to another lighter single, which I would assume would be either Run or Where Did the Time Go. I don't think they will release Connect as a Single. Could be wrong though.

The timing is interesting to me. Just under 3 months from TNGB. For a band, that usually is a good thing because it means the label thinks there are more single worthy songs on the album. If it holds, we could see a third single before the end of the year and 5-6 total.

I agree with Cassie on connect. It would be a travesty to not release it as a single. It's is such a solid track in so many ways. And with the Mumford sound it has it would appeal to their fans as well.

It's funny that I came across this topic - just the other day, while listening to Connect (of course), I was thinking which track I thought would be the next single....and "Telling Lies" was my first guess.

Not sure why it seemed logical to me - unless it's the link to "Riptide" in the lyrics.

I somehow missed this topic until now. :surprised: I think Telling Lies would be a good choice for a single. Not my first choice for what would be next, there are so many songs that could be singles it's hard to choose!

I would love for Connect to be a single at some point, it's the song from Connect that's grown on me the most. :) I did not TOTALLY love it when I first heard it, but I do now.

I'd like to see Poison becoming a single. But I'm really curious about this Rock Version of Telling Lies, I can imagine since the bootleg came out the rock version of it, and it did not became true on the record. Hopefully this version is like what I've imagined.
