This is a short explanation with my experience with the video game Rock Band, but it is also about my real rock band.
Long story short, I learned to play real bass because a friend I made in college saw how good I was on expert guitar on Guitar Hero 2.
I join his band and we began writing and even released a cd this year.
Now we have a song coming out on the video game Rock Band. It is really surreal. It is like a full circle. I started playing real music because of the game that the makers of Rock Band made and now the music I have made is going to be in their game. It is so crazy!!!
Anyway, here is the preview video. It should come out sometime in the next couple months...

That's really similar to the way I started playing bass. Me and my friend would play co-op on GH3 and GH: Metallica all the time. My friend would be guitar and I would be bass. We've actually played together a few times on our real instruments, and we're currently in the process of trying to get a drummer and singer.
I can only hope my journey can go as far as yours has. Congrats, man.

Song was officially released on Xbox 360 today!!! We are going to be recording ourselves playing it and making a contest. The first five groups to beat our score will get a free cd mailed to them! I'll post the vid here when we do it.
