The corset piercings aren't really piercings anymore. Most people that want them permanately get dermal anchors instead. Dermal anchors have a flat part that is inserted under the skin then a threaded part that sticks out. For the corset design rings are usually attached and then ribon is threaded through. If they are piercings on the other hand they are usually temporary for a photo shoot or for a convention and removed right afterward.

Not just that, but what if you forget about them and sit down? What if....eeeehhhhh...what if your hair got caught up in them?* And how do you sleep if you've got little metal bits poking out of your back??? It makes my skin crawl--not comfortable, even just thinking about it.

*Coming from someone who can get my hair (admittedly long) caught in my car door.

When the dermal anchors aren't in use little caps are placed over them to prevent them from getting stuck on anything. The threads on a dermal anchor only stick out about 1/10 of an inch so they aren't that big.

The cap is quite a bit bigger than the threading and also usually flat on the top. This prevents the skin from growing over it so that it can be removed and something else can be put on.
