I am shocked and saddened. The story is atrocious... but blaming it on a song is ridiculous - it is detracts from the severity of the event and the responsibility of the persons who perpetrated the crime.

Yeah I read that yesterday. It is completely ridicilous to blame things on a song. This person obviously had issues before listening to the song. It makes me sick that a song would be used in a manner like this.

That is heartbreaking and downright sickening. But to blame this all on a song is ridiculous. I can't honestly believe that this song was the motivation for the murder.

It is horrible to know that this song will forever be associated with that though.

Oh wow, that is unbelievably unfair

I always think it's a little ridiculous when people blame a horrible incident on music. A song can't be to blame, and obviously this person had problems unassociated with the music. "I Hate You" doesn't even convey that kind of message...

"This violent, awful song" So now because someone listens to a song, its the bands fault for a murder because they wrote a song. So the band gets a bad reputation for it because of someone who obviously wasn't right committing a murder, but it can't be the person's fault? It has to be the band's fault? This is absolutely ridiculous. Shim, Mark, and Emma meant in no way for something like this to happen, even in the song. The song's not about murder....sorry I'm repeating myself and ranting, but they are too good of people on the inside to have blame put on them for a murder simply because of the lyrics to their song.

Did they literally blame the song or was it just planed and the cue was when the music was turned up? In which case it could have been Happy Birthday that was played, someone still died and the actual content of the music had nothing to do with it. I read it and it said the clear motive was that they didn't want the baby, not the actual song.

Though I do have to congratulate the murderers for having impeccable taste in music.

But I know what your saying calling the song awful is just dumb on the reporters part. I mean i know your probably some uptight office worker but have you ever tried to rock out to smooth jazz? No because It just doesn't work!

So the song may be violent if you choose to think about it that way but i don't like the way that they 1 criticize the music, and bring up the fact that this song was played. If it was some stupid Kesha song they probably wouldn't have said anything.

No one (in their right mind) should be "blaming a song". As if hearing this song made the guy realize he didn't want to be a father and the only rational way of dealing with it is murder. The only reason the song is mentioned is because it's a "unique" and relevant cue to start the attack. No one is blaming the song, it just made a good headline as well I'm sure. Personally I'd like to see no mention of this atrocity on the boards, but what're you gonna do.

He was planning a murder and he when online and went to google or something and typed in 'i hate you' songs...how convenient.. I'm heartbroken for that girl and her family and very angry for what he did to the pups

Poor Pups. They don't deserve this, especially since the song isn't even one of hatred, in the technical sense. The lyrics are clearly about a relationship where the narrator is confused about his emotions for the person, not that they really hate the person in the song.

This can't happen to the best band ever, not the wonderful "Free Hugs"/"maybe it's time to change"/"it's gonna be okay" band. Nope. Never.

i am really unable to find words other than shocked & unbelievable myself.
obviously the songs were never written with the intention of harming anyone.
i did not hear about this murder, & tho i typically am always concerned, i dont want to feed into the negativity either.
evildoers, & equally as disgusting pompas windbags who claim to do an honest days work yet do nothing but blab, have made it a custom for generations if not centuries, possibly even eons, to blame the creative, the talented, the artistic, the popular, & now the rock culture for crimes against society. its not just about labeling & rejecting those who are different, its a form of bullying to get the spirited kind to break. i may not possess any great talent, but i defy any bully to conform me into such a thing i am not. that is not how free society works, & as long as i have my freedom, i will utilize it.
since i do not know the story, the writer, the victim, the family, or the perp, i will say nothing about them. not that i dont care, i just dont want to push it. its pushing hard enough on its own. im sure the story will find me soon enough on its own. but what i hope for the SICK PUPPIES is that this will not cause any hinderence in their creativity. SICK PUPPIES if youre reading this, please dont let this fabricated excuse deter your delectable delights of quality music expression.

This is just rediculous. This story was issued almost a month ago, but I would still like to express myself. The media did not even state what was happening before the murder. For all we know, the guy could have been frustrated at the woman JUST BECAUSE she interupted him with music. There are many unknown variables and I have no respect for the news because they blew this WAY out of proportion. Sick Puppies are the most generous band that I know, and I hope this did not alter their ideas to express themselves. GO SICK PUPPIES!! FREE HUGS!!! :music:

I'm sorry but did you all read the article I would just like to settle some things...

The song was only a cue for the murder it did not cause it. The idea was one hid in the back and when the music was turned up they sprang up and strangled the girl, it could have been anything, the song did not cause it! It could have been Justin Bebier if that was the CD that they put in, though it is tragic that our beloved song was used, it could have been anything.

The song also did not give them the ideas! "This tale is so sad and tragic on so many levels. A young mother whose life was brutally cut short, and a young baby who never got a chance, all because a selfish man didn't want to be a father." That is the final quote in one of the articles, clearly stating that the guy who planed the murder did it because of the baby. The poor girl got pregnant by him, he didn't want to be a father and he moved on and got a new girlfriend. He took the pregnant girl out to diner and after his new girlfriend strangled her, and then they went partying because the baby was gone. This has NOTHING to do with the actual song used to cue the murder.

Let's face it if Sick Puppies was actually being blamed them and all their producers would be in court, and last I checked they still have summer tour dates out, and I'm not missing then because some sicko didn't want to be a dad.

Sorry that's so long but you guys can't take this all personally. I'm not defending the people who did this, they clearly have problems, but I am defending our pups. This wasn't their fault, people can interpret music in very violent ways, but I just think that the way they see and hear the music comes from the way they are before they heard it.
