So in my English class, we have this Friday activity where one person will bring in a song to the teacher (without any peers knowing) and our teacher will play it in front of the class. He doesn't say the song name or artist. The students write down who they think brought it and why. This was my week, and I brought Riptide. My friend so kindly pointed out that it was Sick Puppies, which made over 2/3 of the class guess me apparently the fact that I wear the band's merch often gave me away. But what I thought was pretty exciting was that my teacher asked, "Wait, this is the Sick Puppies?" and I told him it was, he said that it was his daughter's favorite band and that a surprisingly large amount of people had brought him Sick Puppies for this activity in the past couple years. I thought that was pretty exciting because I live in a city that over ninety five percent of people either listen to country/Christian music (and not like Creed, the really slow stuff), or rap. I was pretty pumped when several people talked to me after class and asked about the band and the song, and wanted to look into the band themselves because they really liked Riptide.
It definitely made my day! (I even got to play Anywhere but Here after that as well because of a completely different project where we had to pick a song to relate to the stories we read.) I've officially educated my English class on the band. Next is my guitar class!

Re: Sick Puppies in English class!
I wish we'd do that sort of thing in class! I'd definitely make sure everyone either gets so overly exited I'd almost feel guilty or they only get to hate me because they won't be hearing anything else

Re: Sick Puppies in English class!
I'm in the same boat! A VERY limited amount of people know about Sick Puppies in my area. I recently made a presentation in MY English class about what makes me who I am. I said that my taste in music and my favorite band, Sick Puppies, have a very strong influence on me. I wear Sick Puppies shirts all the time and no one was surprised. I wish I could force people to listen to their greatness!

Huh, that's really cute you've got such teachers and such activities) We never did anything like that in our class and none of my teachers would ever understand SP)

Re: Sick Puppies in English class!
Thats Awesome!! 0-0 lol! I had taken Rock N Roll History as a History class in my senior year of
high school and for our Final Exam everyone had to participate in an Air Guitar Competition! I was Like "This is going to be Awesome"! And we had to choose our song that we would be performing and we had to dress up too! for my song i chose "You're Going Down" by the Sick Puppies and i wore my crazy outfit on the day of finals and i had my homemade guitar in my hand ready to go on stage. The room was all decorated with strobe lights and looked like an actual concert hall! everyone was dressed up and interviewed during the competition as soon as I was done being interviewed I was up! As soon as the Teacher played the track I was up on the desks and going crazy and putting on a performance a few teachers from across the hall complained about the chaos and noise from my performance!! It was amazing! Lol! my performance was quite a show, but I didn't end up going to the "Final Round" but everyone was asking me what awesome song I had chosen for the competition! It was a final i would never forget!! (My guitar was smashed up at the end! Lol!)

Re: Sick Puppies in English class!
Today in English, we had to write a paragraph from another person's point of view, and the rest of the class would guess who it was. I just picked a rockstar, and combined what I've heard them say so it was no one in particular and said:
I sit and wonder if this is the life for me. All the downsides of how I live seem to overwhelm me. I miss being at home and sleeping in my own bed. I can't help but wonder if I belong here, doing this, living my life this way. Is all the negative worth it? I stand out of sight, waiting. As I step forward and hear the crowd yell, I know that it's all worth it and this is the life for me.
(not my best piece of writing, but what happened made me laugh)
As soon as I was done, before anyone could say a word, the kid in the front of the class yelled at the top of his lungs, "THE LEAD SINGER FROM SICK PUPPIES!!!!!!"
My friend Anna and I cracked up. Apparently I'm not too secretive about who's awesome since my class knows me so well

Re: Sick Puppies in English class!
I'd so do activities like this for my English class once I get to be a certified teacher!
I've never been one to walk alone, I've always been scared to try. - Sick Puppies, "Maybe"
