Crystal Stairs

**NOTE: This was inspired after my American Lit. class discussed Langston Hughes' poem "Mother to Son" today. Enjoy!**

CRYSTAL STAIRS:
It will never be a crystal staircase
It would be too perfect
Too boring
Too pristine
All of this so-called perfection is a lie
So of course stuff has to happen
That makes you question your sanity
And you wonder if you should give up
And you're tempted to wish yourself dead
And you wonder if you are truly meant for greatness
And you wonder if anyone really loves you
Cares for you
Genuinely wants you for who you are
Not for what you are
And you wonder if you will ever get past that roadblock
That looks too gigantic to go around
In such a small space
That looks like it could be broken down
But nothing is available to use
Except your voice
Your heart
(especially that ability to love beyond compare)
Your dreams
Your words
Eventually the blocks will break down
Maybe cutting you along the way
In the end it shapes you
Changes who you are
Nothing will ever be perfect
Don't give up on anything
Just because something comes up
Just because someone threatens you
Just go out fighting
And come back winning
After all there's no other way to go
But up...
