I just stumbled across this and thought the posts were hilarious seeing how wrong they are now. interesting to see people's thoughts on SP back in '04. http://www2b.abc.net.au/triplej/unearth ... c4510.shtm
Just in case you can't be bothered going through the thread, here's some highlights:
"the sick puppies on the other hand were regarded as the"next big thing" how wrong jjj were"
"the trashy sick puppies who have remained anonymous hardly unearthed! i havent heard the sick puppies since they were unearthed,(probbly a good thing)"
" I hear Sick puppies aren't together any more :'("
"we had the unfortunate pleasure of playing with the puppies. total wannabe rockstar twats"
More fun, this time from '03. http://modularlounge.proboards.com/inde ... thread=256
"I have to admit, I totally lost faith in the JJJ unearthed fiasco when they did Sydney a few years ago... Personally, I believe that to say a band like 'Sick Puppies' is the best Sydney has to offer is an idea that is offensive in a way words could never encapsulate..."
"Surprisingly considering that he used to be an actor, I thought the lead singer of Sick Puppies had the personality of cardboard the one time I saw them"
"We played with the sick puppies two years ago and they are complete dicks, such rockstar dickheads, its all good cos we blew them away!!!!"
And the most interesting post (from the same user who did the last post)::
"a year later at the same venue we opened for sick puppies. We went up to them to say hello and have a joke but the singer gave me this look that said "we don't know and don't want to know who you are, please fock off cos i'm an a s s h o l e. i was cool with that, i could handle it, gave me more incentive to outplay and out frontman his a s s. we were supposed to kick off at 8:30 when all of a sudden they started setting up for soundcheck at 7:45. i was like what the fock is happening here. they played about three quarters of their set during sound check until i went to the soundbooth and told the dude to cut them or we were bailing. it left us with ten minutes to set up and tune and get OUR sound right.
It pissed the guy off when i was walking toward the stage and dropped the shoulder into him (hey he saw me coming, he could have moved), it wasn't hard but hard enough to say we don't like each other.
we had about 40% of the crowd that night and we had strong support, were asked to do an encore, which we were about to do when he walked up to the sound guy...don't know what was said, but there was no encore. anyhoo, it turned being a good show but i would never ever play with them again...
basically the guy is a rich little north shore punk who thought he was the s h i t. maybe this makes us sound like d-ickheads aswell but we are nothing in comparison to this prat!!! its a shame coz there drummer and bass player were really nice and supportive."
Sounds like Shim was a bit of a dickhead, judging by all the posts

Posts like that offend me (not you, but the people who write articles like that), because I know that Shim isn't like that. He, plus Mark and Emma, are some of the coolest rockstars I have ever met (and I've met a ton!). They are extremely down to earth and actually care about their fans. You don't get that too often.
Shim: You don't like Rage Against the Machine?
Me: I like one song.
Shim: Which one?
Me: Bulls on Parade.
Shim: F%&* off! HAHA

I didn't think so, but honestly, we don't really know what he was like back then (unless you happened to have met him around that time?), maybe he just changed his personality after almost failing in the US and became more grateful? I doubt this, but it seems weird that the guy would make up a story like that.

You know, people can be nice 99% of the time, and the 1% that they aren't is what people will talk about.
To your original point, i would take these reactions as proof of what Emma and Shim often say - they left Australia to make it in the US because rock music isn't (or wasn't) appreciated there.

Re: Thoughts on Sick Puppies before DUaL
People change. That's really all I can say. They were in a different place at the time, and for all we know, they could have been complete assholes. They were very young at the time, not that that is really a good excuse either way, and I'm sure they regret it now (assuming all of this is true. Idk why so many people would go out of their way to say these things if they weren't.)
But we do know for a fact that they have changed for the better since then and have become some of the most friendly and down to earth rockstars out there.

Re: Thoughts on Sick Puppies before DUaL
Here's some truths/facts I thought of... Yes, people DO change. However, people can basically post/make up anything they want. People go out of their way to say/post/make up stuff all the time. For example, look at the person who ccame here and started a thread last year saying how unaccessible the band was at shows. For those of us who have been to countless shows (or even a few) we know that is not true. They will stay as long as they are allowed and sign for everyone they can when all I'm sure they would like to do is shower and relax. This person was told that in order to meet the band that a cd needed to be purchased. Well the person decided not to buy a cd, but to buy a shirt instead; hence, the person couldn't stay for the meet n greet. That isn't the band's fault that the person chose to buy something else and it didn't mean that the band was unaccessible to fans. So, see? Anything can be posted/written, even when not true.
This brings me to my second truth... There are 2 sides to every story. So while this says that Shim wasn't nice or had an attitude, maybe the person had an attitude back or wasn't too nice to him/them. Shim isn't a nasty person for no reason. Actually, in the 4+ years I have been followng them, I have never seen any of them be rude/nasty/mean, even when the person may have deserved it.
Sorry, this just really aggravates me. Again, people can/do change, but I bet there is more behind this than may have been originally led on by the person.
