Ticket and cd sales..how much goes to the band??

Unread postby TheSidewalkGuy » 18 Jul 2008 13:55

I've just wondered how much of the money i spend goes directly to the band. I've only seen one show...but i plan on going to more as soon as it's possible to go again. I've bought the "dressed up as life" cd 3 times now. First one i left at a friends house and he mysteriously lost it..lol. The second i bought and still have. The third i bought at the show (also bought the 5song cd) to get autographs. I've also turned my girlfriend on to them and she bought the cd yesterday. So yes i hope alot of that money is going to the band!!!

I also tell everyone i know about them and have them take a listen...just try to do my little part. :)

I know most, if not, all bands make most of their money from touring (headlining for the most part) and merch sales. Not so much on the CDs since that's used to pay off producers, management, itunes, etc.

From what I know, unless the band owns the record label or has a really great deal, they don't make a whole lot on CDs, most bands do make their livings on tour residuals and definitely merch.

CDs make the Record Company rich. (But also allows the Pups to make more CDs if it is selling well)

Does that go for the cds they sell at the concert?? I thought that would be just like the rest of the merchandise they sell on tour?

Anyway, thanks for the info...maybe next time i'll buy just one cd...then get an extra shirt or go see an extra show.

most bands and artists make at least a dollar a cd. many can make more than that but I think varies on different things.

most money for bands and artists is made from touring and merch which everyone else has alreay mentioned.
