Re: Thoughts/Favorites on Tri Polar
:Sigh: Ok, well, I'm kind of sort of a little bit disappointed. Shim's voice is overlapped too much so that it doesn't sound like him. I feel like I've heard the melodies before. Dressed Up As Life was unique and raw, but this is going in a different direction. I got the album and listened to a few songs and shut it off. Since when have I ever done that when I got a new album I was waiting for? Never! I'm upset..maybe the album was rushed and too much producing was done. It tends to happen when a band makes money and releases a second album. The music/instruments are good but they are all talented at their instruments so that is a given. I just don't know what to think...

Re: Thoughts/Favorites on Tri Polar
War - A fantastic way to start the album. For me, it gets the blood pumping and my head bopping up and down right away.
I Hate You - Just reading the line, "I know you think you hate me, but I will always hate you more" does this song no justice. To hear it with the rest of the chorus/verses is phenomenal!
Riptide - Easily a favorite on the album; if not for the Emma's wicked bass playing than definitely for the stop and start pace of the words and the subjects they touch on with this.
YGD - Love the new version of this, it feels like it has the SP twist that this song needed.
Odd One - Without realizing it, this song was always passing me by when I listened to the album. But after seeing the discussion on here about it, I listened to it specifically and it became another favorite of mine off the album.
So What I Lied - "I'm at the point where honesty just doesn't f-ing work for me" ... For me, this line says it all!
Survive - This song has a whole unique sound and has easily slipped into my top 5 faves.
Should've Known Better - I like the bitter, angry attitude in this song but I haven't heard it enough yet to form any other opinions.
Maybe - I like the overall feel of this song and this line always gets me: "Maybe I'm misunderstood, maybe you're not seeing the side of me you should"
Don't Walk Away - I think this is the weakest link of the record (in my opinion, of course). Don't get me wrong, I love the song but it just doesn't have that SP sound for me.
Master of the Universe - Another fave of mine from the record however, I have to agree with the others that the chorus pulls away from the awesomeness that is the rest of this song.
White Balloons - #1 favorite off the album, hands down. I love the sound of Shim and Emma singing together and I have always wished they would remake ATS as a duet using a similar technique as WB.
Liner Notes ... How cool is it that the World Crew was mentioned THREE times in the thank-you's?! I was surprised to see that all writing credits didn't include Mark but only because I feel like it adds to the hype that Mark is usually the one left out (I hope you know what I mean here...)
Last but not least, it was just a little sad to find no hidden track about gnomes.

Re: Thoughts/Favorites on Tri Polar
The newly mixed version of War is atrocious. It sounds fake almost.

"War" is very produced. Almost has an Industrial sound to it. But, it doesn't sound atrocious though haha. Far far from it.

Re: Thoughts/Favorites on Tri Polar
I still don't get why "Don't Walk Away" is the least favorite; I think the only weak link is "War" (still can't get into it, I always skip it and I wish it would've been replaced by "The Pretender")
I guess you have to connect with it lyrically to really appreciate it but I think its also musically superior with the fantastic solo and the haunting vocals that always give me chills, especially Emma's outro line. So far it only seems popular with Californians lol (my friends Jason, Enrique, and Kristen)

^^^ I do love Emma's line at the end. Parts of it are good, but I don't know, the it generally sounds a bit generic to me.

Re: Thoughts/Favorites on Tri Polar
Damn. I don't even know that I could do a list like that. I'll try:
1. White Balloons
2. Riptide
3. War
4. So What I Lied
5. Survive
6. I Hate You
7. Maybe
8. You're Going Down
9. Odd One
10. Master of the Universe
11. Should Have Known Better
12. Don't Walk Away
13. In It For Life
I can't really make an accurate list without ties, though.
