What have we learned?

Today I learnt that Sick Puppies are still singing their version of "Say my name"... it must have been 9 years ago that you guys were belting that out in NorthPoint Taven. Would have loved to have made it to the concert - when are you next going to come and play in Sydney?

I remember when I figured out the true meaning of the word "Politics". All i did was break the word down. It's composed of the word Poli (or Poly) meaning "many" and the word tics (or ticks) meaning "Blood sucking Creatures that carry disease"

So therefore "Politics" = "Many Blood Sucking Creatures that Carry Disease"

Oh that and when I figured out how to play "Freedom" by Rage Against the Machine on my Bass

The thing I'm proudest of learning? The languages I know.

I speak 3 languages. My parents speak Dutch and I went to school in Dutch for 10 years. I suck at anything besides speaking it, my teachers used to tell me I did a great job when I got a passing grade, but I'm still proud that I know it. When I moved to Canada the school system made me go to a French school. Now that I'm in college as a French major, my professors feel that the classes are too easy for me and ALWAYS speak to me in French, even outside of class. Finally, I taught myself how to read and write in English, I already spoke it because I spent the first 5 years of my life in Australia but I'd never learnt anything else. I moved to the USA when I was 17. My spelling, grammar, and reading skills were better than most of my classmates. I had a 12th grade reading level (that's as high as they could test me for) before I had taken a class in English since kindergarden.

That and learning how to drive...I never thought I would be able to do it until I got my licence without missing one thing on the exam!

I was so beyond excited when I finally learned how to tie my shoes.

It took me forever to figure it out. I would see my classmates making the bunny ears and whatnot and I could not for the life of me get it right. I was getting so sick of wearing velcro shoes, getting dirt and weeds and crap stuck in there.

I was finally able to get those badass Sketchers I was dying for. Good times. I miss childhood.

The first thing I ever remember learning to do was to ride a bike. Not like a tricycle or anything, but a two-wheeler. I remember this vividly because my moms boyfriend let go of the bike and i almost fell into a very deep ditch!

I remember when I learned how to roller blade, I never understood how someone could keep balance like that. I was like 8 or something when I finally put them on and I was next to the grass in case I fell. My sister grabbed my hands and told me to just do it. she was like 'if I can teach how to ride a bike, you can learn to roller blade!' and that was kinda my motivation to learn. I fell in love with it and then later on learned to ice skate

Oh god, I hate fractions. Simple ones like 1/2, 3/4, etc are no problem, but ones like.. 1/18 or w/e..

The most recent thing I learned that's relevant to me is how to code and style profile layouts for VampireFreaks with HTML and CSS. I always thought it was really difficult, but after practicing a bit and studying basic codes and what goes where, I figured out how to do them. I've made 5 so far.

Fractions Shim, I swear I'm breaking out on a cold sweat thinking about fractions and oh wait...Algebra... anything in life, when you get it, you get it, or you move on. When I "got" diagramming sentences as geek as it sounds, I excelled. That is life, some lessons not to be repeated, but we are always learning, excelling. Love you Shim. Keep encouraging all of us!!

Five speed driving is... Well, I'm not gonna say that its hard but there's easier things to do. Anyway when I could finally hold a conversation while starting, stopping, and shifting gears I was pretty happy (of course I stalled right after).
